1918 Launched by Fletcher, Son & Fearnall Ltd, Limehouse (Yd.No.5) ("Castle" class) for The Admiralty as JAMES LAY.
November 04 1918Completed.
February 19 1920Registered by The Admiralty as a fishing vessel at London (LO333).
1920Sold to Sir William Beardmore, Bart, Glasgow (Brand & Curzon Ltd, Milford Haven, managers).
1921Owner became the Rt. Hon. Lord Invernairn, Glasgow (Charles Curzon, Milford Haven, manager). While fishing 50 miles W by S 1/2 S from St. Ann's Head and working round a dan, struck by THOMAS HANKINS LO333) on the port side, sustaining damage to after gallows and shell plates.
1930Transferred to Fleetwood.
March 1930While laying outside Wyre Dock and prepared for sea, sprang a leak, towed to sandbank and beached. Repaired and returned to service.
January 12 1932In thick fog stranded on Filey Brig. Salvage hampered by gale force winds and crew evacuated over bow and rocks to safety. Subsequently refloated and proceeded to Hull.
1938Sold to Mills Steam Ship Co Ltd, London.
September 1939Requisitioned for war service and converted for minesweeping duties (P.No.FY.667).
January 15 1942Sold to J. Marr & Son Ltd, Fleetwood for £8625.
1944Converted for dan laying and assigned to Operation Neptune - Normandy landings.
May 23 1944Attached to the 15 th Minesweeping Flotilla as a dan layer.
July 03 1944Operation Neptune ended.
October 1944Returned.
March 1945Reclassed at Hull.
March 11 1946Sold to Dinas Steam Trawling Co Ltd, Fleetwood for £19000. Registered at Fleetwood (FD189).
May 1954Sold to Haven Trawlers Ltd, Milford Haven (Robert Lewis, manager).
1960Sold to BISCO and allocated to Thos W. Ward Ltd, Sheffield for demolition.
March 16 1960Delivered to Briton Ferry under own power from Milford Haven.
