\n13.1.1898: Reported that at Bowmore, Islay, Third Hand, Arthur George Whittleton (18) of Hull, carried away and drowned when anchor fell away while he was passing the chain stopper through the ring of the anchor. Body recovered and brought back to Fleetwood (Whittleton was the son of the skipper of the VALETTA).
