\n9.1.1953: In company with LOCH MOIDART (H481) ran into a full NE gale whilst heading through broken ice, compelling the pair to to turn and dodge into wind. When coming into open water a large wave fell onboard, crushing the wheelhouse port side forward and flooding the radio room. With steering gear damaged and only half a wheel, the skipper managed to navigate with a boat compass and radio operator, James Cunningham, dried out the radio equipment in the stokehold and made contact with the owners to say they were safe.
