The Bosun's Watch

The FLEETWOOD Trawler Site

This site catalogues the service history and technical details of the Fleetwood fishing fleet and is illustrated by picture galleries and articles written by fishermen.

.....they made their mark as a breed of men, Earth shall not see their like again.....

In memory of The Bosun, Peter Ince who slipped his moorings and caught his last tide in 1998

Welcome aboard. The Bosun's got the watch so join him on the bridge
and set sail on a voyage to discover the history of Fleetwood Trawlers.

New content was last added to this site to the Bookshelf on......

I am adding new content to this site constantly, As there are now almost 4000 pages on line, I recognise that finding new content can be problematical. All new content (at the moment) is being added as service history and technical details of steam trawlers. Some new content, however, will be updates to information that we already have on line.

If you are researching a specific trawler please use the link to the search facility, provided on the left. This will take you to a page with a drop-down list of vessels (currently almost 800), ordered alphabetically. Selecting from this list will display a page with technical and historical details for that vessel and, if available, a picture. Otherwise, browse the galleries or use the search box below.

Fleetwood Steam Trawler Database

This database is owned by Fleetwood Maritime Heritage Trust and is based on the original research of Wilf Dodds and the late Alan Hirst. With my own research on Fleetwood trawlers started in 1949, I joined with Alan in a project that we hoped would give a detailed history of all the steam trawlers that had been owned, managed or agented in the port.
Wherever possible the research has involved base documents including Lloyd's Registers, Mercantile Navy Lists, Ship Registration documents, Registers of Fishing Boats, Marine News (Journal of the World Ship Society), Fishing News and Olsen's Fisherman's Nautical Almanacks.
Much additional material has been provided over the years and I am grateful for the input of the following who have freely given the results of their own research and also conducted further enquiries on my behalf: Jim Porter, Peter Brady, Tony Lofthouse, Chris Petherbridge, Barry Banham, John Stevenson, Stuart Emery, Ray Richardson, Roger Griffiths, Capt Walter L. Hume, Barry Johnson, Bryan Richards, Mark Stopper, Alan Page (PLRS), Andy Hall, Jonleif Joensen, Birgir Thorisson and Others.

Any use of this material should include an acknowledgment to Fleetwood Maritime Heritage Trust (FMHT)
